INSIDIOUS chapter 2 (2013)

Let me start by saying this is a chilling 106 minute delight, directed by James wan. The first movie "INSIDIOUS" sets us up for its practically better follow up in chapter 2. The first movie ends with the death of the paranormal psychic "Elise" (Lyn Shaye), who has just helped the Lambert family retrieve a loved one from the beyond, sort of purgatory realm. The next chapter opens with Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) being interrogated by the police about the murder, which occurred in her home. The actual murderer is a brilliant shock, therefore, I will not reveal who did it. I will only say that I was on the edge of my seat for most of the film.

Basically the Lambert family is trying to discover what happened in Josh Lambert's (Patrick Wilson) childhood that left him connected to this supernatural realm, and also exposed his family to the horrors of unspeakable beings from beyond. Patrick Wilson delivers a sharp, concise, and extremely believable performance. His skill at making you believe he is afraid only adds to the great suspense of this film. The action scenes are vivid, and again look very realistic. I have seen fight or action scenes in films that were generally played out too slow, causing the audience to visualize the step by step process it took to film them, that is not the case here. The scenes are fast, so quick that you are truly not ready for them, and so scary that you're stomach curls.

Most of the film is figuring out who the bad spirits are and how the Lambert family can rid themselves of them before they themselves become it's next victim. Lighting and sound were very good, color tones were excellent. Some horror movies are either too light or too dark, and 80% of them drive you crazy with the constant whispering of the actors lines. Again this film pleases all of the senses. It is a definite must see. The only requirement is that you will have a hard time following this film if you have not yet viewed the first film, "INSIDIOUS". If I had to make a complaint the only One I could come up with would be a little dragged out in the spirit realm at times, but not enough to destroy the experience.
Last but not least, it leaves us with another cliff hanger ending with the hopes of another chapter...INSIDIOUS 3!
