LONG DISTANCE (2005)
Does anyone out there think the old "Schitzophrenia" plot has been overly used and abused yet??? I do. Yet here we are again trying to top what can longer be topped. You may recognize the main actress, Monica Keena, from her roles in other horror flicks and her small stint in Eminem's "8 mile". She plays Nicole, a young girl rittled with various anxiety disorders, including obsessive compulsive disorder, who was recently dumped by her cheating boyfriend, Chris. Chris apparently just up and left Nicole, yet didn't take one single item with him, duh, why is that? You guess.
So Nicole mistakenly dials a wrong number and get this, she talks to a man named Joe, who apparently just finished murdering a family of three. Seems to be getting better...right? Ok, so now enter the police detective Frank Halsey (Ivan Martin), he is here to tap the phone lines and save the day. How is he going to accomplish this? By sitting on Nicole's couch and eating Chinese food with her for a few days, apparently. So together they sit and wait...and wait and sit....and sit and wait...until...the FBI jumps in. Yes you guessed it, we need another character to sit with Nicole and wait for phone calls from a depraved killer, who hasn't even threatened her, but is killing many others. Think their time could have been better spent hunting the killer personally. But Nicole is cute and she's a great hostess.
The ending will surprise most, but it's still been used so many times that the shock value is just not there. This is an unrealistically drawn out film that leaves you saying "Why did I watch that?". On the fair side I will say that the acting was awful, and the set boring. I really wouldn't recommend this film to anyone I liked. Sorry Nicole.....
