GODZILLA Final Wars (2004)

        GODZILLAFINALWARS

This Toho production was directed by Ryuhei Kitamura in 2004. Most of us are used to the B-rated acting and production skills of Toho industries yet we still find ourselves sitting down to enjoy Godzilla films. This film was intended for the all out Godzilla fans who have been begging for a plot since the first flick in 1954. Did they deliver one...Yes. Was it a  GOOD plot..Nah! But again it's Godzilla so in the end it doesn't matter. What matters? Fight scenes between large, unusual creatures vs. Godzilla. This package was delivered, wrapped, and tagged in time for Christmas!

The movie starts with the premise that most of the world as we know has been destroyed. Then of all of the monsters of the earth are released and start causing further havoc for the humans. Who will save them now? Well, aliens, of course. Yes, the aliens come to earth and gain control of the monsters, thus, saving mankind. What's the catch? It's simple really, we are their food source. YES that is what I said, we are a happy meal to those from beyond. Who can save us now?????

Only Godzilla. Unfortunately he is encased in a tomb that the main character Boss has put him in. So now it is up to him to release Godzilla to destroy the rest of the monsters, who were actually controlled by the aliens, and then rid the world of the aliens. Are you confused yet? You should be. So what exactly is so great about this movie? The awesome monsters and classic Godzilla fight moves.

You have to be somewhat of a fan of the large reptilian to truly appreciate this movie. The good news is that I am. I loved seeing all his old arch enemies fight to death with him. Everyone from Rodan (Who is my favorite) to King Ghudora, and the wonderful Anguiris (who by the way doubles as a spiked dodgeball) makes an appearance in this film. The knockout fight between Godzilla and Zilla was outrageously fun to watch. Of course some of the moves were just downright silly, but with a good sense of humor this movie can bring on the smiles. I recommend this as a classic to all Godzilla fans, young and old.
